Following the positive response to our first 2019 Charleston to Charleston Sneak Peek, we are sharing a little more news. While the full program announcement is coming next month, we are thrilled to introduce four more of our 2019 speakers.

Jeffrey C. Stewart

An American Professor of Black Studies at UC Santa Barbara, Jeffrey C. Stewart won the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Biography for his work, The New Negro: The Life of Alain Locke, chronicling the father of the Harlem Renaissance and advancing the work of gay and gender ambiguous artists in the Harlem Renaissance and beyond.

Lionel Shriver

Lionel Shriver is a UK based American author of twelve novels, including New York Times bestsellers So Much for That and The Post-Birthday World. Her international bestseller We Need to Talk About Kevin was adapted for a feature film. Her current short fiction collection, Property, illuminates the modern age’s most enduring obsession.

Carl Zimmer

Carl Zimmer, teacher of science at Yale, is a New York Times columnist and prize-winning author. His current book, She Has Her Mother’s Laugh: The Story of Heredity, Its Past, Present and Future was widely regarded as the popular science book of the year in 2018 in the US and the UK. "He makes complex topics accessible with his sparkling storytelling and beautiful writing." --London Evening Standard

Nigel Hamilton

Known for his sweeping biographies of American presidents like John F. Kennedy and Bill Clinton, British-born author Nigel Hamilton's War and Peace: FDR's Final Odyssey tells of the last days of Franklin Roosevelt's presidency and life, including his ongoing battle with Winston Churchill and Josef Stalin to shape the world in the wake of World War II. “A first class, lens-changing work.”—James N. Mattis, former United States Secretary of Defense
